THE NATURAL GEM OF THE SERRA DE TRAMUNTANA
The Torrent de Pareis, located in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, obtained the accolade of Natural Monument in 2003 precisely for its extraordinary landscape and natural characteristics: it is the second deepest karst canyon in the Mediterranean, where numerous endemic plants can be found, as well as the endangered Ferreret or Majorcan Midwife Toad (Alytes muletensis). The most spectacular part of the 3.2km canyon located between s’Entreforc, where two large torrents converge and form a large natural plaza, to the imposing gap that breaks directly into the sea, is known as the Torrent de Pareis.
A TECHNICALLY DIFFICULT EXCURSION
The Torrent de Pareis, being of karst morphology, is dry most of the year, only after prolonged or heavy rains does it have water flowing, albeit for a relatively short period of time. When the canyon is without water, the approach takes 1 hour 30 minutes and the descent takes about 3 hours, which is done mainly avoiding the chaos of boulders, however, there are six mandatory steps of between 2 to 7 meters slopes which can be negotiated using your hands and feet, one of them with a rope. As it is a long descent through the canyon, of constant up and down rocks (some of them large), leg muscles that are not normally exercised are used. Consequently, it is necessary to have strong legs, good body balance, not suffer from vertigo and be in good physical condition. The rest is the guide’s job.

PROGRAMA
You will start from the port of Sóller with a 35-minute private transport to Escorca, the point where the descent to the Torrent de Pareis begins. Then, 4 and a half hours to go down to Sa Calobra (615m elevation gain – 7km) through the karst canyon and finally a 25-minute journey by private boat to reach the port of Sóller again.
You will enjoy a classic but demanding route of Mallorcan hiking.
